Pepa-Pepa is the Paper Frog Complien. It belongs to the Passion Element. It is the grown form of Ripa-Ripa, and the final form of Tada-Tada.

Appearance[]

Pepa-Pepas are almost completely flat Compliens, generally  a dull white in color. Their appearance resembles loose-leaf papers, as they are covered in blue horizontal lines, alongside one red vertical line. They are roughly in the shape of a frog when viewed from top-down, with arms, legs, and webbed fingers. Female Pepa-Pepas may be seen with a number of Tada-Tadas scribbled across their back.

Information[]

Pepa-Pepas are almost completely flat in form. While a little bit of dimension exists to allow function of their organs, typically the organs are well-flattened as well. This allows Pepa-Pepas to easily fit into many tight spaces, occasionally making homes between thin crevices in rocks. Most common in Smao Sha during springtime, residents of the nation sometimes are surprised to see Pepa-Pepas emerging from various cracks in the ground to mate.

Pepa-Pepas are well-known for their unusual mating habits, where the sperm of a male Pepa-Pepa is spread across the back of a female Pepa-Pepa, which is usually covered in its egg cells. This creates the impression of black marks resembling pencil, though as they grow into young Tada-Tadas, the difference becomes more clear. When Tada-Tadas break free from a mothering Pepa-Pepa, it creates a hole in the body, usually leaving the Pepa-Pepa deceased.

Their skin is frail, and as such, they rarely get into battle with other Complien species. However, they are known to be fairly acrobatic, and their thin body allows them to easily dodge attacks. However, if grabbed, their skin can be ripped apart with little effort, meaning they must rely on hiding from predators at any given moment.

Habitat[]

Pepa-Pepas are typically seen around shorelines in Smao Sha and occasionally Qedal. However, they rarely move deep into the water, as prolonged exposure appears to be damaging to their frail skin.

Origin[]

Some insights on Pepa-Pepa's origins.

Name[]

Pepa-Pepa is derived from the name of the pipa pipa toad and "paper."

Design[]

Pepa-Pepa is inspired by the Common Suriname toad, or pipa pipa, which is known for its flat appearance and the eggs embedded in the female's flesh. Pepa-Pepa takes inspiration from sheets of loose-leaf paper, with the appearance of the Tada-Tadas on its back resembling pencil markings.

Trivia[]

  • It was almost named "Papa-Papa," with the same pronunciation as the final design, but this was changed to make the pronunciation of the name more clear.
  • During April Fools' Day 2019, Pepa-Pepa was repurposed as a Battletoad, alongside Somblot and Flying Frox.
